My experience at Ambialet was truly unforgettable and re-energizing. The instruction, performances, the scenery, the people, and the FOOD was absolutely amazing. I gained so much insight with my studies and hope that I can revisit in the future.

Molly Roseman, Professor of Piano, University of Wisconsin

Thank you for an amazing experience in France. It is something that I will never forget.

Jack Westwell, Edinburgh University music student

What an extraordinary week we spent with you! It wasn't just the music. It was such a beautiful place, the food was perfect, and we met so many interesting people. But it was even more than that: there was such a wonderful atmosphere of warmth and friendship. It was a truly unique experience. Well actually I hope it doesn't turn out to have been a unique experience as both I and Andrew would love to come back next summer.

Annette Andrews, retired amateur pianist, Dublin

The last two courses were simply amazing ... the teachers, the atmosphere, the people, the place and of course the music make it something special. Seriously, thanks a lot for gifting me with an opportunity to live something like that.

Daniel Fernandez (19-year-old piano student at ESMUC, Barcelona)

Thank you so much for a fabulous, inspiring and utterly delicious week!  I really feel that I have come away ready to perform in front of an audience, which is what I set out to do.

Musical Opinion

Paul Roberts is known internationally as a leading exponent of French piano music. ‘I know of no other figure in the musical world,’ Richard Goode has written, ‘who combines so impressively the roles of scholar and performer. [His] excellence as a writer on music is matched by his superb talents as a pianist.’
a

Paul Roberts has written two books on Debussy, Images: The Piano Music of Claude Debussy and a biography, Claude Debussy, which have become seminal texts. His latest book Reflections: The Piano Music of Maurice Ravel (Amadeus Press) has received outstanding reviews. International Gramophone commented: ‘The richness and colour of his involvement makes this new book an endless source of reference and delight in terms of both scholarship and poetry. A mine of information, it is difficult to imagine a finer or more glowing tribute.’ He has recorded CDs of the music of Debussy, a DVD lecture-recital Mists, Fairies and Fireworks (for Amadeus) on Debussy’s Preludes, and television lectures from the keyboard of La mer and Ravel’s Bolero that have been broadcast internationally. His multiple career takes him all over the world, especially to the United States, including concert appearances and master classes at Juilliard, the Peabody Institute, the Golandsky Institute, San Francisco Conservatory of Music, the University of Washington, and Portland Piano International. He has given recitals and master classes in Madrid, Stockholm, Sydney, Brisbane and at the Yong Siew Toh Conservatory in Singapore. In London he has made frequent appearances at the Wigmore Hall and has recorded for the BBC. He is an Honorary Fellow of the Guildhall School of Music & Drama in London, where he is a professor of piano and an Associate Research Fellow.

He is currently working on his fourth book Reading Liszt - an account of the numerous piano works of Liszt that were inspired by his wide reading of European literature - and he has just released a disc of piano music by Ravel and Liszt, including Ravel's Jeux d'eau and Miroirs, and Liszt's Les jeux d'eaux à la Ville d'Este.

aPaul Roberts is an outstanding teacher whether in the studio, the master class, or the concert hall, where his ability to engage students and audiences through explication and demonstration is unparalleled. Portland Piano International has commented: ‘His ability to express musical ideas in words is astounding, a unique gift….Articulate lecturing, wonderful critiques in master classes, fabulous pianism.’
